If you want to slow down and enjoy the winter woods, Arizona Nordic Village on US 180 is the spot. More than 40 km of groomed cross-country trails and 15 km of snowshoe paths wind through ponderosa pines, with ski and snowshoe rentals on-site. It's a better fit for preschoolers through tweens than for babies. Parking and restrooms are on site, dogs are welcome, and the village is stroller-accessible. Shade is only partial once you leave the densest trees. Weekday winter hours are short — 8am–2pm Monday through Thursday — so this is not an after-school plan unless you come Friday, when $5 from 4–7pm gets you a trail pass and rentals plus a bonfire and a movie. Saturday runs 8am–7pm; Friday and Sunday regular hours close at 4pm. Yurt and cabin lodging is on-site if you want to make a weekend of it. Most days are $$; Friday night is the steal.
