Your Guide to Labor Day in Flagstaff
Labor Day weekend is the biggest weekend Flagstaff has all summer — the county fair, Art in the Park, the Shift bake sale, and cooler mountain air. Here's how to plan it with kids in tow.

Easy • 5.7 miles • Loop • 2-2.5 hours
A trail system of five interconnected loops through ponderosa pine forest, just off Old Walnut Canyon Road from Country Club Drive (I-40 exit 201). Keep it short on the 1-mile Sinagua Loop, or string the loops together for up to 5.7 miles and about 324 feet of elevation gain, which runs closer to 2 to 2.5 hours. The tread is rocky but rated easy, and it's stroller-accessible, which makes it a family-friendly pick for toddlers through tweens. Shade is only partial under the pines, so the open stretches still get sun. This is also a favorite mountain-bike system: teach the kids to hold one side of the trail at blind corners. Bikes are supposed to yield, but don't count on it with a toddler mid-trail. Free parking at the trailhead. Open dawn to dusk year-round, including winter, and it's free.
