Meteor Crater

Meteor Crater

About

Attraction • Indoor & Outdoor • Admission Required

The best-preserved meteorite impact site in the world, and it's nearly a mile wide. You'll find it off I-40 at Exit 233 in Winslow. The Discovery Center has hands-on exhibits, a 4D theater, an Apollo Space Capsule, demonstrations, and guided rim tours, and you can actually touch a real 1,406-pound meteorite. Open daily 8am to 6pm. Admission is required ($$). Restrooms and parking are on site, there's a gift shop, and the site is stroller- and wheelchair-accessible — a good fit for preschoolers through tweens. No pets inside, so skip this stop if the dog is along. Indoor exhibits plus outdoor rim time; the kind of place that makes kids feel like they're on a real science mission.

The guided rim tour is included with admission and it's the part worth timing your visit around — check the next departure time when you buy tickets.
